Sympathetic Renovation of a Listed Building

Diss, Norfolk

Listed building elevation in Diss before and during renovation

External renovation of the Durrants estate agent office in Diss. The Eastern elevation was in a very poor state of repair, having been cement rendered some forty years previously. As a listed building, we took the utmost care to carry out a substantial and sympathetic renovation while liaising with the Heritage Officer and planning department.

The oak frame required extensive repairs due to rot caused by water ingress and the cement render hindering the building’s ability to breathe. Waveney Build Ltd constructed a new face frame in oak throughout to bridge over the weak points, and rebuilt two chimneys and the valley roofs. The walls were then rendered properly, with the correct lime plaster onto traditional larch laths, as would have been the case when the building was originally built.
